The Weather is nice and all, but….

…it is just NOT supposed to be 70 degrees in January.

Can we all finally get worried enough to actually do something about global warming now?

December 2006 was the first December in over 100 years to not see any snow in New York City. The Glaciers in Glacier National Park will be gone by 2030 if global warming continues at its current rate. Venice (yes the one in Italy) will be gone too, since the world’s seas will rise over 30 feet in the coming century unless things change. And fast. And I’m not just talking about governmental action, though that is important and -at least in the US – is part of what’s missing.

Every one of us can take action today.

We can buy more efficient lightbulbs, a bandwagon that even Wal-Mart has now jumped on to (for other cool takes on the importance of buying CFL lightbulbs, check out the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life’s campaign here).

We can offset our carbon emissions, which is especially important for those of us who travel on airplanes with some frequency. Click here to calculate your carbon emissions and click here to learn how to offset them.

We can take public transportation or walk whenever possible, shop for groceries locally, buy the most efficient appliances possible.

Bottom line: enjoy the Springlike weather in Central Park tomorrow…but while you’re doing so, think about what YOU can do to be sure that this kind of weather stays in Spring.
